Supporting Participants with Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology (AT), are devices equipment, tools, and software designed to support individuals with disabilities or functional limitations to perform everyday tasks.

An OT is able to assess a Participant's needs and evaluate what type of AT which will be most appropriate to assist in daily living solutions. AT is broken up into 3 categories which are low cost, mid cost and high cost, with your OT helping you to determine what category your AT falls under.

Examples of needs AT equipment can help with are:

  • Mobility: Walking sticks, crutches
  • Communication : Routine boards
  • Hearing : Alarm clocks/smoke alarms that vibrate  & hearing aid batteries
  • Bathroom assistance:  Hand rails, toilet seat raises, shower chairs
  • Food preparation: Kitchen trolleys, equipment to help you wash dishes and food preparation

Four Point Therapy's mobile Occupational Therapists are able to visit the Participant in their home to assess their individual needs, abilities, preferences and goals.

The AT is chosen and implemented in a way that maximises its effectiveness in supporting Participants' independence, inclusion, and participation in various life activities.
